Missouri Wine! That's right,
and it's delicious...
I recently judged a wine competition
in San Diego called the Critics Challenge. Ten of the country's
top wine writers judged nearly 1,300 wines in two days and awarded
a healthy dose of medals to stellar wines. One of those wines
was a sweet pink wine from Missouri's Stone Hill Winery. Called
Pink Catawba it is made from a native American grape variety
called Catawba. It was simply delicious and took home the best
of show for pink wines.
This is not the first time Stone
Hill Winery has snagged medals in wine competitions I've judged.
It is a world class establishment founded in 1847 in Missouri.
It grew to be the second largest winery in the US and was recognized
as one of the country's best by the turn of the century. Stone
Hill produces its wines from native varieties and French-American
hybrid grapes such as Vidal, Seyval, and Vignoles. If you're
not familiar with these wines, now is the time to discover them.
